What is a ‘dune buggy’ and why are they used in racing?
By John DarnielleThe racing paddock was buzzing with excitement when the Dune buggy first rolled out of the factory in April 2016.
The Dune is the result of a partnership between Jaguar and Dune Performance, which was originally founded in 1999 by former Lotus boss Paul Stannard.
Stannard’s Lotus was one of the pioneers in the modern sports car market, but the Dampier-built car was one to watch.
The car has a huge, open bonnet, and the exhaust is all in the engine bay, with the driver in the front seat.
There’s also a large cockpit and luggage compartment, along with a giant rear wing.
The engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre V8 with a twin-turbocharger system and four electric motors.
The engine’s power output is a massive 1,600bhp and the Dumpers claim a maximum torque of 1,500lb ft.
That is a lot of power for a tiny car.
It’s not only a huge step up from the V8s that powered the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and McLaren, but also from the engines of the old supercars of the 1950s and 60s, such as the Mercedes-Benz B23 and Ferrari 312.
But why is it so big?
The Dumper, which weighs in at 496kg, is a bit of a joke, as its engine was designed by an engineer from the company’s former UK engine unit.
But it has proven itself.
Its design has been adapted to a much larger size and weight, and it’s also been able to survive the harshest of conditions.
It’s been used in several endurance races, including in the 2016 Tour de France, and has a top speed of around 220km/h, the highest of any car in the world.
The Dumpie was also one of just three vehicles to finish in the top ten in the DNF Endurance category.
“I think the car is a little bit more modern than it was back in the day,” Dannielle told Motorsport.com.
“You look at some of the more modern engines, but they’ve got all sorts of performance enhancements.
They’re now a little more aerodynamically efficient and are able to achieve that higher top speed.”
A big step up in power, and an even bigger step up to speedThe Dampiers engineers also put a lot more work into the engine, with a massive exhaust, an aggressive intake and twin turbos.
It is the biggest engine on the grid today, and its engine is the only one of its kind.
It was developed by Dampie, and is the engine that powers the Dauntless racing machine.
The team have also been working on a twin turbo V6 version, which would be much more powerful.
It looks like a monster, but in reality it’s a little smaller than the original Dampers design.
It is a 1.7-litres V8, with an extra-wide bore and supercharger and twin superchargers, and twin turbochargers in the cylinders.
It can produce up to 600bhp, with torque of 500lb ft, and there’s also power-to-weight ratios of 5.2:1.
This car was also the engine for the legendary Daunties fastest-ever car, the Superbird, which raced at the 1964 Monte Carlo.
The company’s Dampyer V8 is used in the Mercedes AMG GT, and in the current-generation McLaren P1.
The supercar was powered by an engine developed by Jaguar, and with the Duntiers own engine in it.
“The power is there, and we’ve got some of that power going into the cylinders, and that’s the beauty of the Dummies engine,” Duntier said.
“It’s very close to what the current turbo is, but it’s really much more efficient and you get a huge amount of torque from it.
You can get up to 700bhp from the engine.”
The Dummie is a giant step up for Dampies performance ambitions.
The power and torque of the engine is much bigger, and they also managed to squeeze a new exhaust system and new fuel injection system.
The exhaust has been designed to give more airflow over the car, and can be modified to give a bigger, wider sound, and make the engine sound more like the McLaren P2.
The new system is also better than the old one, and Dampy have now been able with a new compressor, which also doubles up as a compressor for the engine.
“That’s a big improvement,” Damper said.
“We’ve also got an additional gearbox to boost power, which is also a big step forward.
The new gearbox is very big, and very well designed, and this engine has a good performance in terms of power.”We
